The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) can reimburse Oklahoma and Arkansas landowners for forestry mulching and land clearing. Grit and Iron LLC works directly with your local NRCS office to help you take advantage of this program.
EQIP โ the Environmental Quality Incentives Program โ is a voluntary USDA program administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). It provides financial and technical assistance to farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners to implement conservation practices on their land.
In plain terms: the government pays you back a portion of the cost to do qualifying conservation work on your property โ including forestry mulching, brush clearing, and land management practices that Grit and Iron LLC specializes in.
EQIP is funded annually and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Funding is competitive โ the earlier you apply, the better your chances of receiving cost-share for the current fiscal year.
Veterans and historically underserved producers receive priority consideration and higher payment rates under EQIP's Historically Underserved Producer provisions.
These NRCS practice codes are commonly used for forestry mulching and land clearing work in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Your local NRCS office will determine which apply to your property and situation.
Removal or control of unwanted woody plants โ including cedar, scrub oak, and invasive brush โ to improve pasture, wildlife habitat, or fire risk reduction.
Treatment of woody material on-site through mulching and grinding. Reduces fire hazard and improves site conditions without burning or hauling.
Thinning and clearing to improve the health and productivity of forest stands. Reduces overcrowding and improves tree quality and wildlife habitat.
Creating cleared areas to slow or stop the spread of wildfire. Protects structures, timber, and livestock on rural and woodland properties.
Where burning is not practical or permitted, forestry mulching serves as an effective mechanical alternative to achieve the same resource objectives.
Land clearing and preparation for establishing improved pasture or hay production. Includes removal of brush and woody vegetation from fields.
Call or visit your county NRCS office to express interest in EQIP. They will schedule a site visit to assess your property and identify eligible conservation practices. We've listed the local offices below โ or call us at 918-708-1014 and we'll help you get connected.
Work with your NRCS agent to complete the EQIP application. You'll identify the practices you want to implement, the acreage involved, and your conservation goals. Applications are ranked and funded based on resource concerns and priority criteria.
If your application is funded, NRCS will offer you a contract with a payment schedule. Do not begin work until your contract is signed โ work done before the contract is in place is not eligible for reimbursement.
Once your contract is signed, contact Grit and Iron LLC to schedule your project. We coordinate directly with your NRCS agent to ensure the work meets practice standards and documentation requirements.
After the work is completed and verified by NRCS, you receive your cost-share payment. Payment rates are set by NRCS based on local average costs for each practice โ typically covering 50โ75% of eligible expenses.
These are the NRCS offices serving our primary service area. Contact them directly to start your EQIP application, or call us and we'll help connect you.
